Decomposition is a process where organic substances are broken into simpler forms of matter; abiotic decomposition takes places when degradation is initiated by using chemicals or applying a physical process, where as biotic decomposition takes place when living organisms disintegrate the material. A conscious effort of changing the physical characteristic of a material, to give way to something new, can be termed as recycling. Compost is a mixture of decayed or decaying organic matter used to fertilize soil.
